Would air in the hose stop it returning?
Shortened the hose last week. First ride with no worries.
Bike has sat in cellar for a week while I was on my hols (had a lovely time).
Took bike for a spin the moment I got home but post won't return after I've dropped it.
I believe this could cause that issue...
sounds like it needs a bleed which is a quick 5 minute job if you have the bleed kit?

If you managed to drop the post fine then it won't be air in the hose causing the problem. Check the air pressure in the air chamber at the bottom of the post. It should be 250psi.
Seat collar too tight can cause it too. Mine worked fine a few times then randomly stopped returning, torqued seat collar to Rockshox specified torque and all was fine.
