Pretty sure my first Reverb had very little, if any, play for around 2 years. My second, warranty replacement has some noticeable play after around 6 months of heavy use.

There's virtually no rotational movement, and it operates OK, but this suggests to me that the bushings are worn and the expensive top cap might need replacing.

I'd rather not have to warranty it again, even if I could - how easy is the top cap service and replacement?

OK, see the Rockshox tech video now, looks easy enough (though going to have to bodge some soft jaws for my vice).

Still have a question - can I tell which brass keys I need without taking my existing post apart? Or do the service kits come with a selection of brass keys?

The top cap is the cause of your wobble, I think. I've replaced one and it wasn't too tricky. wrap some inner tube around the post and shape a couple of bits of wood to act as jaws and you'll be fine. I seem to remember the kit comes with a selection of keys but I could be wrong.

It ended up costing me about £50 and then the post stopped working about six months later for a completely different reason.

Next time I think I'll just send it off for a full service.

The service kit I had came with several different key sizes. I assume in the factory they just fit the keys that give the best interface to deal with any tolerance issues in manufacture. Makes me think we should probably get some sort of STW reverb key exchange going....

The SRAM service videos are a bit misleading in one key place by the way, when you reassemble the innnermost tube (can't remember what it's officially called, but it's the air spring tube and the white and orange assembly here- [img] [/img]

When you fit it, push it all the way in to the position shown in the diagram, not the 'slightly out' shown in the video. Otherwise the post will not extend fully.

Thanks guys - shame the top cap is preassembled and a bit pricey. Might send it back to Fishers again.
