Been out for an easy spin today aroung Rivington today with some friends from the climbing club:
One mate turned up with a Saracen Rufftrax, in red, canti brakes and still wearing the original tyres! ๐ To be fair, he does go climbing most weekends.
Another couple turned up on a very early Rockhopper and a pretty original Trek 920. They've toured all over Europe on those, apparently.
Then whilst leaving the cafe, a couple of blokes turned up, one on an all black Marin Bear Valley (1993/1994 ish) and one on (so he told me anyway)a yellow Paul Sadoff built Rock Lobster, covered in red Ringle bits. Seemed to be having a good time, too.
WTF is going on?? Do people not realise that we live in a shallow consumerist utopia, where how happy you are depends solely on how much money you've spent? DO THEY NOT CARE ABOUT GETTING THE ECONOMY BACK ON TRACK?
I was so embarrassed, watching them all riding round and having fun on their scruffy, old, well-used and well loved bikes, without a thought to how much they cost that I have vowed to redress the balance by rushing out as soon as I can to buy an adjustable travel seat post.
Buying said piece of overpriced pointless crap should even out the balance I'd have thought...... ๐
