Trek era, probably early 00s. Stepped headtube is a giveaway to later age models.

Nice, but not a real Klein 😉

you think you're over something, that it's all in the past, but then you see something and it all comes flooding back

why did you do it Trek, Why?

Thanks fella, did look at this too...

The 2002 brochure scan is a bit rough but the attitude comp is in the same colour with internal routing.

Tubes look a bit thinner but no way to tell if that’s a ‘trick of the light’ type thing?

Spec no match as the one I’ve bought is heavily customised with hope, discs (still has bosses), raceface, white industries chainset (I think sugion), all xt shifters/mechs etc...

Still think it’s a 2002 frame though at this point!

I do get the Trek - why did they do it point too!

Was never particularly into Kleins BITD but this popped up for a reasonable price so I thought let’s give it a bash.

The originals go for silly money though, especially with the ‘right’ paint!

Sorry ☺️ I was being a bit facetious.

Trek just did what all big businesses do, tried to make money.

I actually like these later Kleins. Still nice frames. I've always had a weird lusting after a Klein Palamino from this era.

I had a 2001 Race - rear facing dropouts and chainstay mounted 22mm Hayes disk mount. Yours looks later than that.

The older ones are rather nice!

I’ve got Yetis and Fats of that vintage but this is my only Klein...

Love the chunky rigid forks you see on some of them!

I've got a 2000 model, no fixings on the chain stay for a disk brake. Really like that purple colour.

This is running a bolt on rear adapter for the calliper. Just got canti/v-brake bosses on the frame...

I'm about 90% sure that's a 2001 model, the reason being I bought an Adroit race 2001 model around that time on discount, and was looking at the Attitudes but they were sold out in my size. There was an attitude that was a mix of fire orange and red colour around that time too, so that was either a different range within 2001, or I'm possibly getting them mixed up and one was a year 2000. Anyone else remember this colour?
Pretty sure they also came stocked with Manitou forked though, and Thompson finishing kit, not the specs as shown in the photo.

Cheers chap, really useful.

Looking at the NS rear dropouts there appears to be specific bolt holes for attaching a disc adapter.

The 2002 catalog scan says, if I’m reading it right, that in that year universal disc compatibility was added.

P.s. guess the question is do these adapter mounting eyelets constitute universal disc adaptability or did they mean ‘proper’ IS mounts?

Trek bikes at that time, e.g my year 2000 Trek 8000 had the same mount. No disk mount = earlier, seatstay IS mounts = later. I think the Hayes 22mm 'standard' had a pretty brief run.

That was a 2000 bike, attitude comp I think. I looked at it, didn't like the colour and plumped for the attitude in blue sky colour.

Never ridden a Mantra, thought I read somewhere the suspension worked better when riding in the saddle?

Similar to the Maverick design?

Trek just did what all big businesses do, tried to make money.

I had (still have!) a Pulse from the first year that Trek took over. Despite really being a Trek, it was a seriously good bike. I built it up with space forks, XT/XTR drivetrain, decent wheels. I should do something with it really - it’s not worth selling.

I have a 2002 GF Hookooekoo (also Trek, also a lovely paint job) with Hayes disk mount.

I had maybe the worst model of Attitude — one with stepped headtube and external cable routing. Other notable features included paint which fell off and original Syncros seatpost which creaked occasionally.
I bought the A2Z adapter to use IS brake caliper but it made the brake howl extremely louddue flex. I`d guess one could make those new roadbike disc brake calipers fit to 22mm Hayes mount with more reasonably sized adapter?
