My RaceFace X-Type bottom bracket is grinding like a good'un now and needs replacing. I've got a Shimano XT HTII one here and set about replacing it yetsreday.
Drive side crank came off fine. The axle though wouldn't shift. I assume you have to gently whack it through then remove and replace the bearings?
Just need to check before I get heavy with it!

Yep just knock it through, I use a wooded mallet on mine.

Rather than replacing the whole BB with a new one, just replace the bearings on the old one. Job done for under £10 😀

Really? Do you know which bearings fit and where to get them from?

Bearings are 6805.
google, ebay, BETD, look around for best price or local stockist. I got a bag full off ebay for £10 that has done 4 BB'd so far.

The hardest bit of the job is removing the plastic top hat whithout snapping it, which can be pushed out fron the inside of the have an appropriate socket or drift. If it does break they are available on CRC.

I may have a couple of bearings and plastic tops hats spare. Mail in my profile if you need, I'll check I still have them.

I snapped the original caps and couldn't get the bearings out of the cups. Got pissed off with trying in the end and bought a new Hope BB.

Wish I'd known all this before I spent £29 on a new XT HT2 BB! 🙁 They're fairly cheap on eBay.

Haze, very kind of you, if you do have them I'd love to give them a try. I'll mail you.

Cheers.
