A mate has an old set of XM1501 wheels and he’s totally pringled the rear wrapping it round a tree (mech does a death at the same time).
I think they’re quite old - apparently the hub is somewhere between a 350 and 240. The rim says xm1501 on it and the hub has a big number one on it. It’s straight pull.
I have a spare XM481 rim which I assume is essentially the same thing - mine was built up j bend - but is the only difference at the hub end?
If the erd is the same on the old rim to the new rim I’d assume the same spokes could be used to rebuild (if not damaged) - maybe just use a new set of squorx nipples and phr washers?
Also is straight pull much the same to build as j bend?
Yes to all of that. Though I would certainly get some new spokes and nipples as you may well find some are damaged quite badly on inspection or are quite bent when tension is released. I recently rebuilt a rear wheel and needed to replace at least i/2 the spokes. Depends how old and abused the wheel was I guess. You will benefit from all new nipples and washers for sure.
Thats the early generation of Spline1's
Glued hub shell. Was lighter than normal 240's and was more an evolution of the tricon wheel rather than a classic wheel.
There was some hub shells that debonded but my expeirnce has been positive and I've upcycled a few sets to super light kids builds.
Anyway, DT havent changed their erd's since that first spline generation so any 28h current XR/XM/EX rim will work as a rebuild.
I prefer building straight pull as the spokes set themselves in the right place when lacing. I tend to install all 28 spokes then work around the rim with nipples rather than j-bend spoke by spoke lacing.
I was going to advertise a rim for sale that is this exact rim if you were interested. Message me if so!
