[Closed] Replacement Freehub for Boost?

Hi,

First let me THANK you for reading this and offering any help. I am very frustrated because I am really failing to solve my problem and my bike has been off the trail a while now.

So, is really simple:
- I have a Diamondback Heist 3.0+ which is a PLUS bike with BOOST hubs.
- My freehub has cracked up and failed. All I want to do is find a suitable one to replace it with. This is an eleven speed rear cassette with one up front.
- My old, failed freehub has 3 pawls. I have bought this which looks EXACTLY correct (but is 4 pawls) but the internal diameter is too small so it won't go on my axel:
https://www.wiggle.co.uk/prime-rd010-r010-freehub-body-abg/?sku=527490
- This looks tempting
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DT-Swiss-Pawl-freehub-conversion-kit-for-Shimano-MTB-142-12-mm-or-BOOST/162687489536?epid=916090292&hash=item25e0ee1600:g:oDAAAOSwmiZZyktP
but it says "DT Swiss" only. My hubs don't seem to have any brand at all. Just say "boost".

So, thanks for pointing me in the right direction to buy the right part.

- Chris

Boost means your hub is 148mm wide, but doesn't really affect your freehub.

What matters is your freehub being the right one for your hub - and most freehubs are spcific to one manufacturer - a DT one wont'f fit a Hope hub, etc. Chances are the one you're bought will only fit Prime hubs.

Is this your bike? https://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/review-diamondback-heist-3-0/

If so, it's listed as having "Diamondback Sealed Bearing Boost, 32h" hubs - those are probably made for DiamondBack by some other manufacturer. I'd get in touch with the UK distributor and see if they can tell you what freehub you need and where you can buy it.

Boost is just a size. Freehubs are specific to the hub make and model. You really need to identify what it is. Try posting some photos of your hub/freehub and folk on here might recognise it

My guess is that's a Novatec hub of some sort, but hard to be sure. Not unlike the A/A2 type, maybe - pic below to compare, but they do dozens of different ones

Novatec sell spares via their site, link below, but at fifty quid a pop, I'd be getting in touch with the Diamondback distributor first to make sure I knew the right model.

He already tired a novatec from wiggle, clearly different

Doesn't look like a chosen freehub either

have a look through here:

Can we see the hub too?

any markings, codes etched or stamped in the hub body or axle?

Weird the freehub has two bands holding the pawls in, all the ones i've seen have a single band.

I've emailed Diamondback. I'll also try to get a photo of the hub this evening (in case Diamondback don't answer). I don't think my incorrect wiggle part is Novatec, it is marked "ABG". THANKS for the advice so far. I suppose the great thing about standards is that there are so many of them...

Was a Prime he tried from Wiggle - and Novatec make about fifty different ones. Commencal hubs are Novatec too, have bought Novatec parts in the past to swap axles for a few different Commencal branded hubs.

You're right it doesn't look like the one I posted, think I pasted the wrong URL. Doesn't have the stepped ring near the seal, or the second band around the pawls.

ABG (see pic above) is "Anti Bite Guard" - it's a little steel piece Novatec bond onto their freehubs to stop cassettes biting into the soft alloy.

THANKS everyone. Diamondback (who seem to be Raleigh) have emailed me a link to a website where they have the part for £29. I have gone ahead and purchased. They never answered the question of what kind of wheel it is though so that remains a mystery. Well, lesson learned about freehubs!

Hi Chris, I've just received the wrong part from Raleigh. Did you sort yours?

Just to follow up for anybody who may be in the same situation. My freehug was this one: WFHB052 at https://raleigh.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015120654-Freehub-bodies

Note that I ended up going through 3 of them. They kept failing after about 6 weeks. I ended up buying a new and different rear wheel.

I did this by email. I have just looked and can't find an online order for it so I would recommend just emailing support@raleigh.co.uk

HTH
