I have had a pair of Specialized Defrosters for a good few years but this winter is finishing them off. They don’t make them anymore so what would be a good replacement? As an added complication I need at least a 48 and preferably a 49 which I think will rule out the Sidi options

I managed to get a pair of defrosters last year, size 49 from a spanish shop online, I had a pair previously and when they wore out replaced them with some lake wide fit size 50 (tried mxz304 and mx146) and the lake size 50 were too small. I was chuffed to find a shop with them in (and they were selling them off for 50 euros).

If you you are currently wearing 48 in the defrosters, then the lakes would probably be a good option.

45nrth go up to size 50. but I haven't tried them yet.

It can be a real pain having big feet, and ****ing expensive as well.

I went for the top end Shimano ones, 7 something, and they have been excellent - if that helps at all?

They are BOA, but that is under a cover to keep the crud off, have ridden them a couple of years, week in week out, hell and high water and still all good - even the velcro is ok!

I’ve got the Shimano Boa MW702 ones. Waterproof, yes. Warm, not particularly strong in that respect 🙁

Not a patch on my old Lake MZ303s

Shimano Ge900 GTX are proving very much worth the outlay for me this year.
