Has anyone tried one of these and if so are they any better than the usual rubbish thst comes with these nestling/solarstorm lights?

Yes, I've 2 six cell packs from Torchy the Battery boy - last for ages, not sure if he still does them though.

The other alternative that gets recommended is MTB batteries - loads of people in here have used him too.

I use one of their battery cases and 4 panasonic 18650 cells which works pretty well. Something like this one though mine's a few years old so not sure if identical:

https://uk.banggood.com/Solarstorm-BC-01-418650-Rechargeable-Battery-Case-Used-For-Bike-Light-p-924962.html?cur_warehouse=CN

It's a hard plastic case so needs wrapping in some old inner tube to prevent rubbing or in an old sunglasses case in a bottle cage.

Also factor in a decent battery charger unit like a Nitecore i4 or similar if you go down that road.

I have seen the following on ebay that look a cut above the usual.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rechargeable-8-4V-Battery-Pack-Power-Bank-For-Bike-Bicycle-Headlamp-Front-Light-/233716370324?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

Anyone used these before i go down the above suggestions?

I've got the same box as chaos. Works well enough. I had some decent cells already so it was an easy option. That ebay one you link to looks ok. The long, thin battery pack is a better shape. My olight is like that.

I bought mine off Amazon as i thought if they failed they would at least give me a refund (not sure if they would replace my house if it burnt down). Correct molded on plug and identitcal cloth case. Still going strong after 18months.

I had my eye on those for a while before I went with some completely new lights.

Planet X used them on one of their recent light models

careful with the 18650 case, look for one where the battery is suspended by srpings both ends, the ones with springs one end and metal tab the other disconnect with vibrations, at best making your light flicker at worse cut out needing it to be turned on again.

Not great at warp speed down some tech.
