[Closed] Removing the air U-turn from a set of Revelation forks?

I'm thinking about buying a 2nd hand pair of 2010 Rock Shox Revelation Teams with the air U-turn. I've heard bad things about the u-turns breaking on these forks, is it something that can be removed and replaced with a standard top cap, since I only really want to run the forks at 150mm anyway.

An alternative is to buy a 2nd hand pair of 2012 Revelations for the same price, but these dont have the Blackbox moco and only a 15mm maxle.

Any Advice would be appriciated
Cheers
Ed

I've had Reba, Revs and Lyriks with U-Turn and never had any problem with it breaking, in fact I've never heard of it breaking. 😕 Can develop a slight knock in the u-turn helix though which is more pronounced in a mid travel setting.

Could be removed...no difference in the CSU for u-turn or not iirc. Loco can probably sort parts

U turn is as solid as a rock. A slight knock can develop, yes, but generally a good dose of nice thick grease on the thread shuts it up. You can't remove it without virtually buying a new fork, in fact it would probably be cheaper to do so and sell them on.
The actual mechanism is integrated into the internal air cartridge. It's not just a top-cap!
Don't worry about it, basically. Trust me..... 🙂

Can be done, but not just a top cap! The whole 2010 U-turn air selve needs removing. The new air piston and top cap cost me about £100 to replace. Faultless ever since!

"2012 Revelations for the same price, but these dont have the Blackbox moco"

2012 RLT Ti's are blackbox dampered, or equivalent
The RLT and RL have the dual flow rebound half of the blackbox damper

My Air U-turns leak from the -ve to +ve chamber so they suck down over a ride. I guess it just wants a new seal but I could do without it

If you do decide to remove the U-Turn from your forks I'd be very interested in buying the u-turn assembly from you. Been trying to get hold of u-turn bits for a few months now.

I had a seal pop in my 2010 Revelations recently, but that's been the only issue in three years. I simply bought a seal kit and serviced the air spring assembly and all was golden. +1 for plenty of grease.

Regarding breaking U-turns in Revelations...

I was after some s/h forks a month or so ago and found some U-turn revs. Saw that reviews of the 2010 fork were littered with reports of them breaking. Seems there was a design flaw in the 2010 version which appears to have been dealt with by SRAM.

Probable all ok now.
