I've just got hold of a bargain bike. The downside is that it has been kept outside for I'd say the last 12 months. Surface rust has built up on most of the bolts on the frame, in particular the brake caliper bolts and springs to the back of the caliper.
Any top tips for removing the surface rust ? The offending parts are currently sat in WD40 ready to be scrubbed with a brillo pad. Any more ideas or just MTFU & scrub harder ?
Coke - the real stuff but none of that diet nonsense.....if that doesn't work then try Irn Bru
Coke and the non shiny side of tin foil scrunched up into a ball.
Dip it in the coke and rub over the bolts and it will remove the rust.
A alternative is to remove the bolts and put then in a cup full of vinegar,it acts as a mild acid dip to burn the corrosion off.
A rotary wire brush is the tool for the job
