Right been a while and in the process of updating & removing bits on my recently received but used DH bike. It's got an ISIS BB that needs to come off, mainly as it's holding on the biggest chain device in the world (44t cage beast) and the cranks are bent. So got the Non Drive side off ok then went to work on the drive side with the offending chain device. It was moving very slightly about 1/8th of a turn at a time then with some extra pressure (no hammers this time) the spanner came off the tool and now I have a hole in my hand. Unfortunately the threads are now starting to distort in the unscrew direction. Coated it with gt85 then lube and shut the garage door at this point.
Whats my next move?
On the list so far are Heat via boiling water
bigger spanner
bigger hammer
bike shop
Any other ideas been years since I've seen an internal BB
Turn the right way?
lol if only i'd thought of that
whoaaaa .... no hammers!!
put the non drive side halfway back on
blowlamp the shell
screw driveside back on then off a bit
then back on and off a bit more
....etc
keep it hot
take it easy

you dont know me do you?
You are turning it clockwise I presume?
If the chain device is able to move slightly, try moving that in the same direction as you turn the BB (like a ratchet motion) it worked for me!
I prefer molegrips over spanners for use with BB tools.
Use a bolt to hold the tool in place too, you're going nowhere with it slipping and damaging the splines no matter what you do.
anyone used an impact driver for this? As in the hand held one you twist into the direction you want the bolt to go and then hit with a hammer? I remember some bb tools having been available in 1/2" socket/driver fittings so i wondered if that would work you secured the frame well enough.
Only asking cos I bought one the other week for bastid bolt on the car, and I am chuffed with my new 'man-purchase'.
Oh and +1 for the 'bolt tool onto bb spindle' advice -its way helpful in my experience.
What's wrong with a scaffold pipe extension?
I've got a great big length of old steel pipe (from a climbing frame) about 2m long.
Almost anything that's really stuck will come off with that and some GT85.
Obviously try to avoid bending other parts of the bike.
Put the BB tool in a vice and use the frame as leverage.

Did that just reminded me that the bench needs fixing to the floor
Heat - no need for the blowtorch for starters - just try hot water ( assuming an alloy frame boiling water expands it a suprising amount)
Bolt the tool on to the bb so it cannot slip
Get some leverage on it - couple of feet of tube sounds good
Quick thing to check - the chaindevice isn't an MRP or similar with grub screws which are biting into the BB shell and hindering you?
