Following on from the ghostbusters thread, and because Stoner thought it would provoke a good 'debate'!
I have a rubbish memory for films, and am struggling to think of remakes that were better than the original!
Stoner started with the Thomas Crown affair (was that the remake with Pearce Brosnan?)
I can't think of one!
Casino royale.
(Not that the remake was much good either)
Ocean's Eleven
Not sure if better than the original (mainly because I haven't seen the original), but the remake of the Omen was pretty good.
Casino royale.(Not that the remake was much good either)
I think that's the best Bond film yet.
?
I think that's the best Bond film yet.
I'd go with Godzilla (not the most recent one) as better than the original.
The Thing (from another world) (Kurt Russell version, of course)
Catpeople
?
maybes, as they're good (for various reasons 8) ), but not seen the originals!
Not seen the original True Grit, but love the remake.
King Kong. Jack Black's best performance as it was before he got so big that he couldn't be directed...
Heat
Point Break
Planet of the Apes 😉
Point Break
Don't be silly...
King Kong (on the 76 version)
Little shop of horrors (on the 1960 version)
Airplane (based on the original 'straight' disaster movie Zero Hour)
Hairspray.
I realise that fans of John Waters may disagree...
"Referendum 2: The Remain Vote"
Faith No More's Easy, much better than The Commodores
Glad to see Heat mentioned. LA Takedown was shit.
The Italian Job. Charlize Theron..... drool!
I'd like to see a remake of Brief Encounter but I wonder if any director could recapture the subtlety of the developing relationship.
Heaven Can Wait.
I liked the new Robocop film.
3:10 To Yuma and The Departed in my opinion.
King Kong? No way! The 1933 film is a classic, the remakes poor.
can't think of any
The Fly
cape fear
Dredd. Not really a remake, but certainly better.
The Total Recall remake's better than the Arnie original ... do like Arnie though.
Faith No More's Easy, much better than The Commodores
Uuugh!
(Those that know the song should hopefully get the reference. Not sure of the correct spelling, though!)
The Thing (from another world) ([s]Kurt Russell [/s]Pingu version, of course
Lord of The Rings. Though there's a charm to the Bakshi version.
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers
Batman Begins.
That Pingu video Phingu is amazing.
Ben Hur Charlton Heston vs 1930's BW.
The Italian Job. Charlize Theron..... drool!
No it was just a glorified ad for Mini's a very bad film
A vote for Casino Royal
and some more to look forward to

I preferred the Hollywood version of "The Ring". All the psychic power nonsense that the lead female character was meant to have in the Japanese original ruined it for me.
Battlestar Galactica tv series. The remake was surprisingly good.
Star Trek, everything is better than the original series.
That Pingu is awesome!
