Following on from the ghostbusters thread, and because Stoner thought it would provoke a good 'debate'!

I have a rubbish memory for films, and am struggling to think of remakes that were better than the original!

Stoner started with the Thomas Crown affair (was that the remake with Pearce Brosnan?)

I can't think of one!

Not sure if better than the original (mainly because I haven't seen the original), but the remake of the Omen was pretty good.

I think that's the best Bond film yet.

?
I think that's the best Bond film yet.

I'd go with Godzilla (not the most recent one) as better than the original.

King Kong. Jack Black's best performance as it was before he got so big that he couldn't be directed...

King Kong (on the 76 version)
Little shop of horrors (on the 1960 version)
Airplane (based on the original 'straight' disaster movie Zero Hour)

Hairspray.

I realise that fans of John Waters may disagree...

The Italian Job. Charlize Theron..... drool!

I'd like to see a remake of Brief Encounter but I wonder if any director could recapture the subtlety of the developing relationship.

King Kong? No way! The 1933 film is a classic, the remakes poor.

Uuugh!

(Those that know the song should hopefully get the reference. Not sure of the correct spelling, though!)

Lord of The Rings. Though there's a charm to the Bakshi version.

I preferred the Hollywood version of "The Ring". All the psychic power nonsense that the lead female character was meant to have in the Japanese original ruined it for me.
