saw these on singletrack fresh goods a while ago and i've just seen the five tennie are on adidas and found a 20% code, but are they any good for mtb'ing, they have got the stealth sole, but it is technically an approach shoe, is the sole stiff enough, anyone tried them yet

Not sure of the soles would be stiff enough as they are approach shoes. If you can live with that then I'm sure they'd be fine.

Not tried the new Tennies but I have a pair of Aescent's ( https://www.trekitt.co.uk/25706/products/five-ten-mens-aescent-dark-grey-citron.aspx) which would be grand for riding - though I guess it would depend what you do / what you're used to. The soles are a good bit less stiff than Freeriders or Impacts, which could get a bit wearing on longer rides.

I'd bet that like a lot of their more casual shoes they use a less sticky grade of the Stealth rubber.

^^^

They do, but it’s still more than sticky enough.

I’ve been using the Tennies boot all winter and they’ve been great. Sole appears to be the same Stealth version of my Freeriders.

Hang on a bit and they'll be on Rock and Run for a lot less.

They use the S1 rubber outsole which is what most of Five Ten's cycling shoes use .

The fit of Tennies is a bit more snug than standard 5:10 riding shoes so size up.

5:10s in general have shrunk since being taken over by Adidas, go up a size if you know your old 5:10 sizing.

Glad it’s free returns then , ordered a regular uk9 which I am for 95% of adidas I have had, the five tens I’ve had have always felt roomy so may be ok

Got the shoes today, sole is pretty sturdy and bending inwards only the front 1/3 bends upwards , a little narrow to slip on, but a uk9 feels like a regular uk9 to me,
Perfect for summer, they are tough suede leather so a waterproof spray may do them some good , will test them tomorrow

Ordered. Turns out those 20% off vouchers are really easy to find.

3rd pair of trainers this month. Done for the year I reckon!

Wore for a 15 miler with a few rocky descents this morning, and a techy cobble stoney path above oxenhope soles gripped like super glue
Definately stiff enough sole too

These will be my go to summer pair it was iced over and cold in places on the moors today and my feet got cold, I went for my regular adidas size and they are spacious, although very narrow across the midfoot

So yep I recommend them spot on
