Anybody got any tips on best way to recover from an epic ride, I did Manchester to London, 250 miles in 22 hours at the weekend and my legs are genuinely in pain!
I tried to take in a good mix of protein/ carbohydrate straight away, but wondered if compression wear, sleeping with legs raised, massage etc would do me any good or what works for you guys, anything to assist without resorting to painkillers?
a *really* gentle spin to get some blood flowing through the muscles and flush some of the toxins out may help.
Google DOMS for a plethora of solutions.
I did my first ever 10k race on Saturday after 'not much' running in the preceeding 3o years. It hurts to press anywhere on my legs at the moment.
there isn't a miracle cure - you WILL get pain, particularly if relatively untrained for the distance/event.
Muscles are damaged and need to be repaired - don't drink (alcohol) for a day or two, and eat healthy and varied with very light cycling or walking for half an hour a day, is IME the 'best' solution.
Oh well, i broke the alcohol and healthy eating parts within hours of finishing! Real ale and a mixed grill supposed to be any good?
Lots of gentle stretching. No bouncing.
scud - 250 miles in 22hrs! Well done!
I discovered that compression stuff makes me feel better, but it doesn't actually make me better- did a big ride on a saturday, slept in my 2XU ones, woke up the next morning feeling fresh as a daisy, went to glentress, discovered by 100 feet up the hill that I was absolutely buckled.
