...the UST ones...as a general all-round trail tyre, with/without tubes? Thanks.
Seem to be pretty good.
Having used LUST highrollers for donkeys years, I bought a RQ BC UST in November, despite having been ridden all through the winter AND a week in the Italian Riviera, it's only just starting to show signs of wear - the week's holiday alone would normally knacker a Highroller. (I've used it on the front btw...)
It's much rounder than a Maxxis, so you don't get that definite "edge bite", and so initially it feels a little vague, but it's not, and it just keeps on gripping if you push it.
The only terrain it really doesn't like is wet muddy limestone. Cavedale is very sketchy. The only 2 times in recent history I've dabbed down there have been when using the RQ. The rubber compound simply doesn't hook up and the front wheel just slides out from under you.
Yep, pretty good. Not great at mud or hard corners, but brilliant at rocky trails, huge grip for that sort of thing for a tyre that rolls as fast as they do.
But hard to find I think, or have been in the past. And absolutely don't get the non-black-chili ones, they're just conti staging a 90s revival, genuinely awful.
+1 for them being pretty good and rolling very well.
Yep, agree on the above points. Rubber Queens are very good, all round tyres. You'll find something that on the limit will corner better, will roll better, will get through mud better and I guess (although I've not found it) hook up for mental steep climbs on hardpack / gravel better. But it seems to just do all of it well, far better than the nobby nics I've replaced.
The fact they are quite tall tyres means my bike feels like I've added 10mm to the suspension as well, which is quite nice.
+ 1 for very grippy for thie speed.
Don't get too hung up on UST, standard protection casing ones with a big slug of sealant work just fine, especialy if you have a compressor to get them mounted.
You'll see the sealant coming out through the sidewalls for a bit but that soon stop as the holes fill and job's a good 'un.
Sorry to hijack but do you recommend 2.4 front and 2.2 rear or 2.2 front and rear for general trail use?
The 2.2s are pretty big. (think 2.5 Maxxis sized)
2.4 is the guvnor up front.
It's a big tyre, though, so you would need to check it fits your set-up. I ran one on an 819 rim for a while which seemed a bit on the narrow side - rode fine but didn't seem the ideal combination just looking at it.
amazing tyres but they mis shape on landings soemtimes and thats the tyre ruined ๐
Don't think I'll be doing many 'landings' unless something's gone horribly wrong. Cheers for the info though.
Yes
I think the new ones are smaller than the more generous sized previous versions.
2.2 UST BC Roll real quick, but not so good in mud as mentioned. I deformed one this weekend off a 4ft drop, not sure if its because I had fairly low pressure in or it is a genuine problem with the tyre. Good job I wasn't in the middle of nowhere! Like em a lot though so have fitted another
I love my BC 2.2/2.4 rubber queens just killed a set in the Spanish mountains but even with thorns sticking through every where and a healthy gash in the side wall they stayed up. Best tyre and only tyre ill ever use.
Best comment I ever read about rubber queens was on here: they make 2 types of rubber queens, plastic crap and black chilli!!! ONLY buy black chilli I've used 2.2 f and r for trail use for years I'm now using 2.4 because I had them spare front and rear because I'm telling my self the horrendous drag from the monster tyre will in some way make me fitter. And they look cool as ****.
You can nearly get TWO Purgatory's for one RQBC (just a thought)
JonEdwards - MemberThe 2.2s are pretty big. (think 2.5 Maxxis sized)
My 2.2 was 2.2 inches across, controversially. So yeah, bigger than a Maxxis 2.35 but that's because Maxxis are generally small, not the other way round
Yep, got the same width. 2.2 bang on on Mavic 717's. Bigger than a lot of 2.35's etc, due to the fact that they really aren't. Still find them quite tall though, but I've not measured many heights of tyres to know if it's by much, but it's certainly more than 2.25 nobby nics (actually 2.0's) and 2.0 mud x's (actually 1.8's)
Oh god, I'm a tyre geek...
