[#13535561]

I'm so out of touch with all things bikes however with the child's new (and very welcome - except to the bank balance) love of mountain biking I'm slowly getting back into things.

The only crap bit of the bike he's just got is the pedals and he wants some good anodised flats for it. Can anyone recommend some decent but well priced options.

He's a long way off going full send yet so they don't need to be bombproof, just decent.

I'm a plastic pedals convert and have them on 3 bikes. DMR V11 can be had cheaply in a variety of colours and when you scratch them up they don't go silver.

+1 for plastic pedals. I've recently tried a pair of crank bros stamp 1 version 2 pedals - they come in a smaller size for smaller feet and I'm impressed with them. Not to be confused with the original stamp 1 pedals which had less grip than a greased banana skin

id get plastic over aluminum all day long, tend to be cheaper, more durable, lighter etc

Yet another one for plastic. I run HT-PA03A on my hardtail and find them quite grippy and supportive, to the point where I can't remember the last time I had a sketchy moment because a foot slipped off a pedal. Quite low maintenance too.

Nice one - thanks all. Exactly the kind of info I need at the moment.

I'll investigate those options...

I still hold out against plastic on the grounds I like shiny but it really is hard to justify the vaults vs the v11s I have on the knockabout bike and it sadly it does come down to it looks better (for a while anyway).

On a side note the entire DMR theme is mostly laziness sticking to the brand after buying my first set back in 1997 (**** thats a depressing thought).

Well I've been told - the child wants gold anodised so that's what I'm going to have to find 😀

His bike and all that.

I actually really like the look of the plastic ones, both the DMR and the Crank Brothers. May get some for myself.

There’s a new superstar pedal that is a successor to the Nano, I’ve brought some and very impressed.

these

No gold though!

To be contrarian, I’ve yet to find a pair of plastic pedals with sufficient grip. Had some nukeproof (nowhere near as grippy as the ano Sam Hills where are immense), more recently brought some stamps but removed them after three rides for the afore mentioned superstars.

Got a pair of these for my nephew when he started riding and they were spot on for him  at the time, red trail centre stuff basically with little in the way of jumps. I wouldn't use them personally ( I only use clips anyway ) but they are basically a copy of Crank Brothers Stamp pedals, ideal for a youngster just starting out and come in various colours

Another vote for HTPA03A. Deity T Mac’s were amazing until they weren’t. Those AliExpress ones look like a TMac copy. I could be tempted.
