Pretty much as per the title really.

Only additions are that they must be puncture proof/resistant, have some grip so i can use on gravel tracks with my son and be cheap(ish).

What is the STW recommended tyre?

I've used Schwalbe Marathon 26'' tyres in the past. Very puncture proof. Long lasting. Not too expensive, but there are cheaper options out there.

The most puncture resistant is the smartguard, followed by the greenguard. I've found that the greenguard has lower rolling resistance (perhaps due to better complience). The greenguard models are usually cheaper too.

I'm now using 700c versions of Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres and they've been superb. Nearly 2000km on gravel, dirt, tarmac and sand without a puncture or much wear. I used them on a Baltic cycling tour and they were surprisingly capable on the gravel and dirt roads. Great tyres.

I got 2 years out of a pair of 26"x 1.75 landcruisers with zero punctures. They roll really well & the side knobs give excellent grip around corners.

Now running the same width 29er version on my hybrid.

Schwalbe City Jet, although might struggle with the grip on gravel tracks. I've used some in muddy Thetford conditions before without issue, but they'd probably slide across gravel pretty dramatically I reckon. Presumably you'd not be going too fast.

Or look at Spesh Hemisphere/Crossroads.

Another vote for schwable marathon plus, they're heavy but then they're lined with kevlar, they've got a neat reflective strip too
