So I'm looking for a new saddle. I seem to be fairly hard on saddles and tend to wreck them. My latest saddle is about 9 months old and its gone like all the rest- bent rails resulting in the seat bending to the right. This is how my last three saddles have died so its clearly a result of my technique. My last seat had titanium rails and my arse still bent them. So I'm looking for a good saddle for less than £50. What would people recommend?

Charge Spoon. Cromoly rails perhaps - should be £30 or under, so if you do break it you can at least replace it cheaply enough...

+1 for a Spoon here, by a long chalk the comfiest saddle on any of my bikes. I've a Spesh Avatar and an I-Beam Bel Air too.

If you keep killing saddles then simply buy two Spoons and keep one as a spare. Job done and if you shop around the you'll still have enough change from £50 to treat yourself to a post purchase pint.

Ive got a Gusset R series XC saddle. Rails have held up well so far, (I often go through saddle rails very fast) very comfy, despite the lack of padding. £20 and it comes in tartan 😀

Only hear bad things about comfort on Ibeam - seems to have died a death really.
Would make hardtail fairly unpleasant

Charge spoon, less than £20 and as comfortable (for me at least) as a £70 spesh saddle

That's because you're on STW 🙂

Take a look at the range, there are plenty of styles of I Beam saddle to choose from. Some offer ultra lightweight performance some offer a more comfortable ride.

It's a genuinely good system. I use the Carbon I beam post and a Formula FX saddle on my XC bike and have zero comfort issues.

I've used I beam since it came out. Bel Air SL suits me fine. Never broke one yet. Carbon post is good too. Very light system and no comfort issues here. Just be careful of the serrated 'beam' as it can chew up if not aligned properly

Fizik Gobi?
Great saddle but too pricey if you're killing them, my tip is to start buying secondhand on here, you'll find a lot of people buy high spec bikes with saddles like Fizik Gobi's and don't get on with them.

Wtb rocket replaced a charge spoon, very comfortable. Charge was too wide.
Good for the arse, let's just leave it at that....

DH sofa with extra-thick rails.

Comfort in a saddle is meant to come from the shape and how it avoids your legs and holds your seat bones and pelvic bone.

The padding should be in your shorts, not on the saddle.

Think I'll give the charge spoon a go, its cheap at least. If it doesn't last long i might look at switching to the ibeam.

+1 Charge Spoon

Wiggle doing the white and orange ones for £14.99 at the moment

I just swapped a WTB Rocket for a Spoon. Just didn't get on well with my bony arse. Each to their own and saddle is personal choice, whatever works for you, but a lot of folk on here rate the spoon, myself one of them.
