Hi @Boblo how do you think the 245 would stand up to mountain bike riding, mud, water and general clumsiness (rather than falling off), I agree about keeping it simple for most uses (bearing in mind I just use my phone in my pocket as basic gps bike computer at the moment), but wonder if I need the Instinct just for ruggedness?
@concrete24 It just sits on your wrist, it's quite low profile and light so shouldn't catch on anything or irritate by wobbling around and there are no moving parts. If it gets bashed, you'll be more worried about what it's attached too rather than the watch...
I think the screen is plastic rather than some fancy high end glass so you might want a scratch protector in case you decide to wipe when it's crusty...
It’s easy to get into an arms race with this and end up with a Fenix 6 when a Foreruner nn would do…
+1 for this.
I only really went for the Fenix due to looks, as I wear it 24/7 including in the office and didn’t want to either a) wear a “sport” watch with a shirt in the office of b) be swapping watches back and forth.

Apparently the screen is Gorilla glass so presumably resistant to scratching but bananas should be avoided whilst wearing it...
If you are on a budget I have a vivoactive 3 you can have for £60 posted.
I gave up with Garmin after the recent cyber hack . Even before this their firmware was full of bugs and drove me mad I’d never buy their products again
Moved to Wahoo - so much better . I think they have just released a watch !

I've got a Fenix 6x Plus which is great with Garmin Pay, Music including Spotify, and detailed ski resort maps.
I'm currently using an Apple Watch 4 though 🤔
There is the Fenix 5x on sport pursuit, but I cant really see what else its giving me than either of the above?
Power meter support / maps are the two main things that spring to mind.
Really bugs me that the lower end Garmin watches don't support the ant+ power meter profile.
