[#3739715]

I'm looking to replace my knackered FSA chainset with something that works.
Requirements are a chainset for a XC whippet in a two ring flavour, so nice and light.
So far I've been looking at FRM, SRAM and Truvativ.
Any Rotor suppliers in the UK to have a look at prices?
Anything else to consider in the 2-300GBP territory?
Also a 2X10 is going to work with a 9 speed chain and 9 speed cassette, isn't it?
If not, which triple????

I'd go for a second hand XTR myself. Not sure about your 2x10 question though...

Good luck 😉

Sod s/h, you could get a new XTR for that money.

Or to be different, Middleburn.

I like the look of the lifetime guarantee on the Middleburns.

Cheers.

Anything else?

I've been running 2x9 for years. I tried the Middleburn Duo but found it to be really bad at changing, so binned it and settled on the Cannondale CX-2 44/29 Chainsets which I'm just about to sell as I've moved to XTR.

CX-2:

Those Middleburn cranks, they work with a "standard" Shimano HTII BB? And standard chainrings?

That's my worry with a 2X10 front on a 9spd cassette. I'm confident the chain will run without problems, it's the spacing and changing. It's currently an FSA chainset with FRM rings 2X9 and all works perfectly, exceft for the knackered cranks. 🙂

Didn't realise, well done! XTR is the best in my opinion and I've tired a few - not Middleburn though.

Maybe that tells a story in its self...

Is that a question of setting up the front mech correctly?

The Cannondale CX-2 had ramped teeth on the chainrings whereas the Middleburn Duo just had standard teeth. There was a huge difference between the two in terms of ease of changing. Then Cannondale discontinued the CX-2. However, I've just bitten the bullet and bought the XTR groupset, so will be selling the old groupset on the classifieds some time soon...

That FRM thing's an ugly bastard isn't it?
I've had good experiences with shimano and raceface.

Duo just had standard teeth.

There's always a logical reason.

Looks wise I really like the new 2x10 XTR, although it's completely over priced.

Fat fingers don't mix with modern technology.
That's the very one.
One day I'll manage to copy and paste a link.

Yes, as in Middleburn make standard chainrings and they're the ones you'll replace any XTR ones with as they last twice as long for half the price 🙂
