[Closed] Recommend a hardtail, upto 800 quid?

Darkside friend has an itch that needs to be scratched. Help turn him by recommending something around 800. Geared, & nothing overly niche, North Cotswolds/Chilterns riding, and no problem with discounted 2008 models: 'large', 19"ish I'd say.

Off the top of my head I thought:
Genesis Altitude
Charge Duster Mid
P7 S a bit too pricey
From the above you'll see I have steel tendencies. Anything else worth checking out in Alu?

focus black forest .even with the poor euro the bike @ £800.00 is killer value.check wiggle for details

Have a look at merlin's sale bikes they have a malt 2 with full s lx groupset and fox forks for £829 and malt 4 ( very good frame had one a bit back)with same groupset and rebas, look very good value to me although focus looks good too.
