So I've fitted my new stem and carbon bars as per instructions along with carbon assembly paste. But the thomson stem instructions were for just 4nm on the torque wrench. Didn't seem like anywhere enough! I need reassurance before tomorrows ride ( or more likely being told to mtfu)

Hand tight on allen key plus a pinch. Always works.

Don't worry about it. I have carbon bars and the faceplate worked loose this week (new stem). I could feel the bars twist a bit in the clamp long before anything more serious.

Hmm, I have Havoc's on one bike (with a Thomson) and after a couple of rides I had the bars turn in the stem. Fortunately I was just changing the travel on the TALAS at the time and was stopped...

I therefore adopted pedlads excellent solution!

I guess advice would be to keep checking that the bolts are properly nipped up (I don't have a torque wrench at home...)

I'm not the only person to suffer this...

edit: p7rich's post^^^ is proved by my post. Not that much of problem if low rise, could be worse if hi-rise though?

Thought about loctite but instructions state grease the bolts ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Think I'll got for ride round lanes first then check them. No reason to doubt Thomson engineers! Just used to doing by feel but playing by rules with the carbon bars as I think "hand tight" would have been massively tighter than 4nm (hands like a gorilla me :|)

pedlad, I experienced the problem when I was stopped and pumping the forks to change the travel, I didn't have an allan key with me and rode home without any issue...

edit: and I hadn't checked the bolts neither as per below. One bolt felt pretty loose when I was tightening... so that was probably the problem!

My incident was my fault really. Stem was recently fitted and i had not got round to the checking/re-tightening process you should do a ride or two after fitting. ๐Ÿ˜•

Just a thought there maybe...

But the point of greasing bolts is so that the correct torque is more easily attained and to prevent corrosion/galling, I use parks anti siezed compound, a bit thicker than grease. Just take your multi tool with you, you'll be fine ๐Ÿ™‚
