matey has an old-ish Giant AC2 ('03/04). he wants a new rear shock as the current coil thing weighs 670gr.
any recommendations? budget around 200ish so 2nd is prob on the cards.
i don't ride 'soft-arse' so can't offer much advice.

oldish, that's only just 5 years old! That is so not old.
He may have issues with the specific size of the shock i2i/stroke, but otherwise going for one of the fox RP series would be my recommendation.
Lots of them about for less that £150 (RP23's can be had for £270 new) on fleabay and you could spend the rest on getting it serviced.
