I'll try to explain - when running the mech in a fairly tight position eg middle ring to big cog on the back, the pivot / spring assembly near the upper jockey wheel jams backwards ie doesn't pull forward as it should. So the mech mounting bolt, upper pivot and lower pivots are roughly in a straight lie - the upper jockey isn't springing forwards as it should

I did take the spring out and clean it up / re-grease. Possible I put the spring back in the wrong way round. Would this make a difference?

It's about 10 year old XTR, btw

thanks!

Not too sure on the XTR model but it most definitely will make a difference if the spring is not tensioned by putting it in wrong. If it has a few different ways to go in try the other holes. My XO spring can be moved around and I like it tensioned hard so the chain doesn't drag along the carbon cage and wear it out .
If you can get a picture up that might help people
