I want to set my old Kona Major Jake up in more touring type mode with 40t / 22t front chainrings. In 22 and as I drop down the rear 10 speed cassette the rear mech (105 and very short cage) runs out of tension (I don't really run it very often like this as I would be back up in the 40t chainring) . Would a longer cage rear mech be the answer - either a medium cage xt 9 speed as I know this works with 105 shifters or a longer cage 105 if there is such a thing?
