Hey

Currently building up my Niner 29'er with a 10 speed set up....

Caught between Shimano and SRAM, so any thoughts/comments on either would be appreciated; main question I have though.... SRAM have a range of options for the rear mech with short, medium and long cage length - any ideas on pros/cons of each?

Choose cage length based on range of gears required. 34-11 is gonna need a long cage, 12-25 short.
Of course, you need to take range on front rings into consideration too.

Never had an issue with medium cage X9 and an 11-34 or 11-32 cassette. The length of a long cage SRAM is only required for granny and smallest few on the cassette combinations. But there's no point and good reasons not to cross the gears that far, so non-issue IMO.

There's a great thread on this somewhere. I'll link if I can find it.

Look's complicated, but if read carefully actually quite simple and well explained.
