Quite old LX hydraulics
Have cleaned pads and rotors with disc brake cleaner
God awful noise when applied
They stop quite well though
Anyone?
Cleaning them is the issue probably.
some disc brake cleaners leave a residue. You might just have ended up witht eh surfaces polished
give the surface of the pads and discs a very light sanding and rebed them in again
Maybe a shimano thing, my SLX's on my Ti456 make a god awful noise on the rear, tried new pads, diferent discs, realigning them, nothing works. I'm even begining to think it may be the frame design resonating or sumfink technical like that 😕
pads not straight
pads/discs still contaminated
pistons not moving freely
ride it, ideally in the wet, if its still an issue after a three hour ride it might warrant further investigation - likely it will fix itself.
Sintered pads?
My XTs can be like that at times, I find a good clean up then some good hard braking to bed them in again sorts it out. They've been worse in the very dry weather for some reason too.
Try taking the glaze off the pads with sand paper and bedding them in again, has helped me when pads have gotten slightly contaminated.
My xt rear brake is currently quite noisy, I'm reckon it's due to the superstar pads in there being ever so slightly too small and rattling in the calliper. Not sure tho, does seem to be play when I apply brake and rock the bike back and forth, all bolts etc done up tight.
Grit in the pads, worn discs....?
A mate was saying the other day (while listening to the horrible noise coming from my front brake) that on motorbikes chamfering the leading edge of the brake pad can deal with it - was going to try it this evening.
Pouring down outside so may not get chance to see if it has worked until Saturday though
What hubs have you got?
I had a terrible issue with a honking noise from my rear Hone (essentially LX) brake. Tried changing loads of things on the brake to no avail. Finally noticed that the hub was in need of a service (Shimano SLX I think the cup and Cone thingys needed poking (not my area of expertise)) The service resolved the "honking" issue.
Might be worth considering?
