Here is a link to the story about my mountain bike trip to Canada's NorthWest Territories with that bike.

Lovely. The fun of riding a rigid bike shouldn't be underestimated.

Can't argue that. I have 2 bikes that I ride these days, one full susser and one full rigid, although a somewhat more modern one than Charlie's up there.

They're both hugely fun to ride, even on the same trails, but in different ways.

The last few weeks have seen me riding around the local bits of the Surrey Hills (near Farnham) on bikes as diverse as a BMC singlespeed rigid roadbike and a Norco Sight.
This weekend saw me trying the local trails on this fine steed:

The weight gets you down the hills quickly (if a lttle erratically) and the climbs are plagued by that weight and the constant shitfting between chain rings to get just the right gear, but golly - it's a bike out in the sunshine, when has that ever been a bad thing. I'd love to try that Annapurna but being honest this is diffferent enough to get me laughing and shouting on my rides. Often just a few yards apart...
It may not be steel but it is pretty real.
