A bike has almost identical dimensions to another bike which I have, BUT has a stack which is 35mm greater.ย Now, I do have around 15mm of spacers under the headtube and 8mm of this 35mm is possibly due to a difference in BB drop, but still, that's still going to be quite a high front end, no? So, I could size down, but then the reach is 15mm out...Which is more important?
It's for a gravel/explorey type bike.
Reach is most important to me, as you say it's easier to tune the bar height with spacers, stem or a flat bar (on MTB).
Bear in mind, if you get a lower stack, and add spacers to the steerer to get the bars higher, that'll reduce the overall reach somewhat, as reach is measured to the top of the headtube.
So you could get a reduced figure of 15mm reach less, but it might be tweaked back a few more mm by adding spacers to get the right stack.
Daffy's looking at going the other way though, so to speak.
