my wheels have developed a rattle, i've narrowed it down to the rim (Stans ZTR 355). Where the rim is joined together i can see the metal bit which is causing the rattle through one of the holes for the spoke nipple. its able to move 1mm or so but creates a horribly annoying rattle when riding.
What does this metal bit do? Is it there to hold the rim together or is it part of the manufacturing process and now the rim has been welded it serves no purpose? I reckon a dose of superglue or similar will stop it rattling, should I do this or is it essential this bit is tight and i need a new rim? wheels are over a year old so can't be covered under warranty.
I have a mavic 719 with the same problem ,, i put a little silicon sealer in there to stop it moving,,
If it's lose it's not doing anything now, pop some glue in there, rim is welded no?
rim is welded up, and no signs of cracks in the weld at all.
