has anyone else noticed this? type in any cycling related search on Goog (the soon to be internationally adopted shorthand for Google*) and they are the first site - relentlessly. I was even searching for chains the other day, and they they were!

Desperation. That's what it smells like.

*You read it here first...

So that's were they are spending the profit on £1,000,000 bits of cycling kit

Sounding like a user error/you problem to me as myself nor anyone else who has responded is seeing this.

What are the exact words you are putting into the search?

presume you've looked at Rapha stuff or related news recently hence your google search feedback is influenced/biased with Rapha stuff depending how they've got their SEO set up.

I'm not seeing anything to do with Rapha, but I'm too cheapskate to have gone looking 🙂

I did look at their sale a few days ago.

Screen shot of search bar and results...

If I'd have put anything cycling related it would have come up with Rapha. It's sort of amusing but at the same time, inshitiffication in action.

I get that it's how the internet works, it's not really a 'user problem' as such

Just searched "cycling jacket" and Endura and Altura are the top two results for me. Rapha aren't even on the first page.

Search results are tailored to users interests.

As are adverts served alongside search results, such as Google shopping.

It's a you issue.

Yeah everything in that screenshot is paid results. No SEO there.

And now they've targeted you for ads (via Google, which these days is mainly an advert delivery platform that people use out of habit because it used to be predominately a search engine). It's not SEO, it's paid for advertising.

My understanding is the slot you are referring to is normally bid for by companies for a given search term (provided it's not too niche). So rapha have likely decided to try and direct people looking for 7mesh kit to their site instead. Normally that slot is won by the brand linked to the search term, but 7mesh may not have tried too hard on the basis that if people search for them they should have fairly good conversion rate from the non-sponsored results.

In the past 6 months I've bought a pair of cheap Chinese glasses and a pair of cheap Chinese barefoot shoes.

Every site I go on now asks if id like to buy a pair of cheap Chinese glasses or a pair of cheap Chinese barefoot shoes.

Proof that while they can access my browsing history they can't browse my buying history.
