Looking to cross Rannoch Moor from Rannoch station to Kingshouse in Glencoe this weekend, but I've heard varying reports on the grimness of the mid section. Is it likely to be a horrific slog or merely a nice wander with a bike in tow?
Regardless of the state of the track it'll be a midgefest and we're also suffering from the worst cleg plague I can remember 😂
It'll probably be at its driest right now, but I still wouldn't assume it is all rideable. Not spectacularly bad as I recall, just enough soft or tussocky bits to make forward momentum on bike a bit of a battle and not really worth the bother. I think the fast boys and girls get across it in 45 minutes (according to the Strava segment which exists 😆)

Not expecting much riding, but steady progress would be preferable to a slog. Will keep an eye on the weather!

Ha! We did some low level stuff on Skye last week, even though it seemed to have rained at least briefly every day the boggy bits were still surprisingly dry.
I haven’t done it for a while, but compared to other hike-a-bikes around the place, it never seems that bad to me given that it opens out a load of options route wise. I have done it with a loaded bike and it involved pushing and a bit of bog crossing, but nothing crazy.
