[Closed] Rack for a lugless 29er

What are my options?

So it's about this time of year I like to go on an offload camping adventure fully loaded. Santa has been good to me and bought me a 29er. Specialized, with no lugs for rack mounts. I recently bought a Blackburn EX1 disc rack, however, whilst quoted as 700c compatible, it only gives about 3mm clearance with a decent 29er 2" tyre. So that'll be going back then. Something like the topeak mtx 29er would be the right size, but as I said, I have no lugs...

Surely someone else must have been in this pickle?

Does it need to be a rack or would a Wildcat harness work for you?

The Freeload racks, made in NZ, would be ideal. They've just been taken under the wing of Thule and should be available imminently.

You can get racks (Old Man Mountain/Tubus/Blackburn) that mount to the rear axle, but I'm guessing that's the one which has only 3mm clearance?)

You can do a lot with P-Clips round the seat-stays and a replacement seat clamp that has rack mounting lugs in it.

Or consider a seatpack instead of a rack - something like a Revelate Designs Viscacha.

i used one of the ones that clamp to the seatpost for about a year and a couple hundred miles off road with no problems. about £20 off ebay but they weigh about a kilo and only take a few kilos of weight (easily enough for sleeping bag change of clothes and cooking stuff though)
use a revelate seat bag now and its much nicer.
