Currently got 30mm axle cinch Turbine crankset and thinking looking at changing the BB.

Can i stick a Shimano External BB on there? What's compatible and what would you recommend?

Won't fit, you need a 30mm spindle BB e.g. Hope, Rotor, FSA - the RF BB is properly rubbish and annoyingly has bearings that are difficult to clean properly and repack.

I had no problems with the RF BB personally, it outlasted both my sets of Next SL cranks...

I have discovered my RF BB is feeling stiff / excessive resistance at the moment.

Hope do a BB for 30mm spindles which is where I will be spending my hard earned once funds allow.

You can carefully prise off the seals, clean to a degree and add more grease to the RF bottom brackets. I did this the other week and has made a big improvement and should easily eek out more life from the BB.

Pretty much all been said already, although as usual I'm not sure I agree with comments about short life of RF BB's as they generally last me for ages...

MrsbeanZ managed nearly a year on the original bearings with a couple of cleans and regressed before I fitted a set of enduro bearings .

And given that they're just a standard 6806 bearing size, they're cheap as chips to replace when they wear out.

Certainly no need to replace the whole unit if just the bearings are worn folks!

I got a Hope 30mm BB for my Cinch cranks. You needed to add an extra 2.5mm spacer than the one Hope recomend in the instructions because the Hope BB is slightly narrower than the Raceface one.

With my Turbine that would've been slightly too much and stopped full engagement, There was plenty of adjustment in the NDS collar to take up the slack (and load the bearings if too enthusiastic).

I really liked my turbines (stiff, decent weight, god chainring options) although the Q factor always felt a bit much and for that reason my knees seem happier with the XTR that replaced them.

I have turbines and have the same niggle - did you go xtr race or trail? I'm planning on a switch to XTR (or maybe just XT if the normal q-factor is ok).
