Older Anthems (3.5" ones) go cheap, are light, reliable and there's a lad up in Strathpeffer who used an XS one when he was 11 and he was ridiculously fast.

Really not hardball? Thought xc Sussex was still too weighty and inefficient?

Very open question, but hopefully here's a few pointers...

Assuming (perhaps wrongly) she's not a heavy rider, so she'll want a lightweight frame. One designed around an 80-100mm fork probably for XC racing if it's a HT at least.

On a budget, you could do worse than check out frames such as the following...

Kinesis Maxlight
On One Scandal or Whippet
Merlin Malt 3 or 4
Rock Lobster Team Tig SL

The size of your daughter is more important than her age. A 14'' frame would be the starting point, don't go fora bigger frame '' she will grow into'' . There should be some good deals on the go as its the end of race season. Contact a good local club and see if anyone is selling a bike/frame their kid has grown out of and a good light wheel set always helps
