Hi do I need an extractor to remove a race face crank or should the right hand crank come out, with a gentle tap (hammer) once the 8mm bolt has been removed?

Which crank? Crank extractor for the modern ones, I think the older ones had some kind of self extracting job on there.

Hi nick warp cow. It is ride so I'll look one tube and try and gauge how likely it is that I can do the job or do go to lbs?

Yes you'll need a crank puller-about the only one still on modern bikes that do!
