Who's looking forward to watching some ridiculous lines this Friday? Finals are on at 17:00pm so settle down with your tea and enjoy.
Good overview of the event and past glories on pinkbike
Shame there's no brits in the line-up this year after fairclough crashed out sending a gap.
I've been looking forward to it, a lot.
Shame there wont be any Brits there this year but hey. It would have been good to see local boy (my home town) Sam Reynolds up there too.
Have you seen that steep chute that they are building? It looks mental.
It’s going to be nice to see them doing new lines in a new location, puts everyone on the same boat having to start from scratch.
Rather than guys who have been 2-3 time adding to existing lines.
Should be good and weather is looking good as well
Will be 90% the same lines as last year only with more grooming and a few more slopestyle tricks thrown in.When Berrecloths ultra exposed and unsculpted run from last year scores the lowest points of any completed run then something is deeply wrong.
I watched Crankworx once already.I won't be bothering again.
I'll be watching. I do enjoy a bit of rampage. It's big and stupid but still I love it.
in a new location
same as last year iirc.
Also, i don't mean to be a debbie downer here but the last 2/3 years have been a struggle on the broadcast- watching live goes on for hours and hours. The weather is clearly an issue that cant be mitigated but its painful watching a rider adjust a pair of goggles for 20 minutes before every run whilst a helicopter interrupts the commentary before they drop in. Absolutely sucked all enthusiasm out of it for me. I'm a massive freeride fan but i always find this event hard to watch as a result- going to watch on replay this year.
hearing professional idiot Brad 'i cant believe they're paying me for this' Jay say "rear forks" live was obviously worth all that though.
Yep, and I prefer stuff like that in rampage rather than another massive wooden take-off jump to landing with a DJ trick thrown in.Have you seen that steep chute that they are building? It looks mental.
Agreed, as above Rampage should be about the lines not the tricks. When Berrecloths ultra exposed and unsculpted run from last year scores the lowest points of any completed run then something is deeply wrong.
Sorry my bad, thought they were moving this year to stop them doing the same lines.
Bummer

Agreed, it's probably best not to watch it for a few years as the riding will not have progressed enough to warrant it.
The last time I watched it was 2013 and TBF I enjoyed it. Prior to that was probably when Gracia won with a sketchy back flip.
Not really into the tricks, generally because they're so sketchy. Watched some of that slopestyle stuff earlier this year and it was awful.
The best MTB riding I've seen recently is those Brandon Semenuk videos, along with a video of some downhillers riding huge hip jumps down the side of a hill. Personally, I think bigger is better; it makes for more impressive viewing. Make the jumps and drops big enough so you can't do tricks over them.
I thought the last location was better for line choice etc. The current location just seems to be exposed ridge spines, with a big drop and then sculpted kickers everywhere.
Last location you had the main line, zink and faircloughs sheltered diversion round the mountain, the canyon gap line, doerflings line and the big line Laconia did, and a load others
I was hoping to see someone nail the impossible chute that Vink attempted but they moved the show on and it's already looking a bit tapped out
Edit: although probably time to move on. Take it to Afghanistan
I like it when the riders float huge, stylish old school tabletops or whips over massive stuff, the techno flippery bar spinnery trickery not so much even though it's probably loads more difficult.

The correct nomenclature is 'back shockers'.

Google "fest series" (I'd much rather watch that than any of the FMB stuff)

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet 8)
Ta.
When is the practice on?
There is a live feed from practice sessions on RedBull/Pinkbike tomorrow afternoon.
I watched Cedric Gracia's vlog on how he was hoping Rampage would be more natural than slopestyle, then saw Zink/Strait/PEF's ridiculous chute! That is going to be terrifying to watch.
So, Stevet1, to answer your question, I am very much looking forward to it! And also gutted for the lack of Brits (well, Brendog Fair-Claw). I just hope the wind doesn't spoil it again.

This, I think I said it last year, this in one event where the TV does it no real favours, the size and scale of the real thing is truly awe inspiring. I have the advantage that it is on at 3am here so I'll be doing the highlights thing.
These were probably my favourites

Last time McGazza was there, the Peaking Rampage vid on Redbull is worth another watch

The 3 days I spent living in the desert with some crazy people was amazing and I'd add it to any bucket list, I'm hoping for some big mountain lines up there and some scores to go with it - there is also a couple of vids on RBTV telling you what scores well and why.
Rampage is one event that doesn't make me think "I'll watch that". Can't even be arsed with the highlights.
At some point someone is going to be seriously injured for naff all h fame, money nor glory.
I find the whole jumpy-trick stuff a bit meh. Same goes for Nine Knights, CranWorx and anything Semenuk does. Totally unrelateable to what I ride.

Nicoli was so close to something worse too.
They know what they are doing and have their own reasons for it, some of the guys walked away.
Yoann Barelli walked away from Hard Line as he thought it was too much for him

and first practice highlights are up
Yep that is steep, very steep, very very steep
It blows my mind how little protection some of them wear 😆
LOGAN BINGGELILazer Helmet
Fly kneepads(skateboarding hard knee pads)KYLE STRAIT

Edit this is ****ing insane [url=
Echo the comments above, it's morphed into extreme slopestyle, which is impressive, but its not big mountain riding which was the point of original exercise
having seen some of the coverage so far, it actually seems to be much more of a 'big mountain' event and more 'natural' in terms of the lines and features. Not sure i can watch live but will try too. It's peaked my interest again!
I loved watching Rampage in the past with the mental lines. Im not so keen on the last couple of years when it seems to have turned into a slopestyle even with perfectly sculpted take offs and landings. Yes the tricks are impressive and highly skilled but thats what Crankworx is for.
I'm gonna watch it with my 5 year old son who goes UTTERLY NUTS when he sees them ride. Cant wait!

^This.
That Reed Boggs canyon gap is insane.
Is only available to watch online?

Unless you can get to Utah, yes

Excellent! It IS nuts! When you see the heights they FALL on BICYCLES!
I will channel my inner 5 year old 😀
New photo epic from yesterday:
this is a spicy line by PEF

Are there no qualis this year?
no qualis this year.
just started now
Here we go!!!
Man, the margin for error on that corked 720 was tiny! The replay made it look like he was going to nail it!
I'm a dissenter here, I'm afraid.
This stuff bears as much relation to most people's riding as gonzo pron does to their sex lives.
And I can't help feeling this will result in someone being killed or paralyzed live on the internet eventually.
Cue the usual arguments about risk and acceptance of risk, but it must play on the mind of anyone normal.
Sounds like you might well be a disaster in the bedroom too Dan. Some of us have far more interesting sex lives than you think.
anyway.. .enough of your handwringing nonsense.
Best R A M P A G E vid EVAR
Camera angles could do with some work, although the deep shadows don't help.
Cam Zink stomps it but room for a bit more style in the middle
Can't stand zink. The whole 'winner celebrates with family' routine every run. The wedge that was brought only for his run that year... Nah.
And it's not about relating to my riding at all. It's the pinnacle of freeride. Do you only watch mediocre athletes compete in other sports? No? Get a grip
Would love to see someone go down that on a fatbike, bouncy...
Sounds like you might well be a disaster in the bedroom too Dan.
That not what your........
Maybe not, don't want a ban!
