Are the hose end and 'olive' assembly supposed to be sealed against an o-ring in the housing? I can't see any o-rings now that I've disassembled everything; coming from an engineering background I would expect to see o-rings.

Why? a well executed olive type joint (as above) doesn't need any additional sealing.

Olive seals onto the hose (insert prevents crush), olive also seals onto both tapers
