Hi! I am new to this forum and am very impressed by the detail of advice. Obviously a lot of tech-heads read the posts. So, I am hoping someone can help me choose which chainline I need for a new Truvatic Howitzer XR BB for my new 456 Summer Season. The background is that I had a Norco Manik 2007 with a double-ringed Holzfeller crankset. I think the bike came with a 56mm chainline Howitzer XR BB (not sure as no marking on it), which is rough as a badgers bollox now. I need a new BB to continue using the crankset. I am assuming the only compatible BB is from Truvativ. However, which size chainline do I need? 50mm or 56mm Howitzer XR BB? What are the variables to consider when making such a decision? My local bike shops in South Devon could not help (as usual) but instead tried to flog me a new crankset, so informed advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

I've been looking into this too, as I just acquired a cheap Holzfeller chainset.

As far as I can tell you'll need the 50mm chainline one. They're designed for bikes with a normal 135mm rear axle spacing (most bikes), and the 56mm chainline one is designed for 150mm rear axles and some other full-sus bikes that have wider rear ends.

Also if you're buying one have a look at JensonUSA - Here - less than half the price of the UK, and postage only £6. Should be ok for import duty too, as it is less than the threshold for that.
