Inspired by the latest Singletrack Mag, we're off to the quantocks for the first time on saturday. Just wondering if anyone could suggest a good start point on the west. i.e. somewhere near the bottom of a good final descent? We're heading up from South devon so I guess it will make for a shorter drive to stick to the west?

Also, any recomendation for bike friendly pubs or cafe's not too out of the way for a lunch stop?

Cheers

Start at crowcombe park gate carpark , err ride all the good combes ..... Stert , Somerton , Frog , Weacombe the list goees on. Lunch at the Holford inn or the cafe at kilve beach road. A local guide a must .

we start from bicknoller village most of the time so we can finish on weacombe descent...always works for us (also from south devon!)

Take a compass. At times it seems like there are paths going in all directions. The next time I'm down I'll try and join some locals.

I rode home from work across the Quantocks this evening (Bincombe road climb, Crowcombe Gate, Triscome Stone, Lydeard Hill). I saw four owls, one deer, something with red glowing eyes (maybe a Badger) a rabbit and heard a stag bellowing in the distance, you can't beat solo night rides ๐Ÿ™‚

something with red glowing eyes

Things like that always seem to appear on solo night rides, I've had similar experiences out on my own on the quantocks at night.

Was probably just a flesh eating beast or the local serial killer ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

This. Starting at CPG always means you just finish with a slog across the ridge.
