Hauling the bike up the wide track, I couldn't help noticing sections of singletrack on the other side of the stream. Is this a worthy downhill or something best left to the walkers?

I take it you mean the left hand side looking down from the top?

It's definitely worth doing although there is a short gulley at the top which has been washed out and is virtually unrideable now but once you get into the trees it's clear.

It's one of those trails you wish was 2 or 3 times longer.

Thanks, I'll seek it out next week.

my wife, my spaniel and i were walking down frog combe on Saturday. Was it you that we met? Not many would choose to walk up frog combe which is why I ask.

The north western side of frog combe does has a very nice descent. It has a steep narrow initial descent which is badly eroded, but the rest is lovely. It is accessed from the path down the ridge, near first flat bit with the puddles.

If you fancy a ride together sometime, give me a shout

No, not me. I was there a few weeks ago and as usual didn't have time to do all the favourites. Planning to be back there next Sunday.

I agree with Mark, if only it was that bit longer. Always leaves me underwhelmed for that reason.

The gulley at the top was washed away during the winter, it's a challenge to get down there without a dab now!

The start is accessed by heading towards Higher Hare Knapp from Crowcombe Park Gate. There is a clearing off the right hand side a few hundred yards after crossing the main bridleway. Frog Combe is down there.

For a longer but equally as swoopy trail, check out Bin Combe.

I'm up there most weekends and during the week in the summer if anyone fancies a forum ride.

Rode the mentioned bit Saturday. As stated, the initial bit is a bit worn but after that its cracking, with a small jump that sneaks up on you

It's the final turn before the stream that catches me by surprise. I'm can't be the only one though because now there is a line to the left of the tree.

I think the first section might be a candidate for some collective trail maintenance.

Bin has been absolutely incredible through the summer. Likely to get too sloppy for me to enjoy it before too much longer though, I fear.

Dead right about Bin Combe Jerry, it's been outrageous this year. Need to get myself down that trail once more before it gets sloppy.

Bit worried about the trail eroding away towards the end. It's getting very narrow along there now.

the other side is my fave of the two... as i find the frog 'rollercoaster' just a soggy blast after the intial techy root bit

i was told a a wee or so ago the route it was haggard

some nice pics of the side you asked about here ; https://www.trailforks.com/trails/frog-combe-singletrack/

its one of the most narrow 'real' natural ribbon of singletrack on the qtx

went down bincombe on my new bike a few weeks ago..was a wet day.. but loved it it..heading out saturday and hoping to hit up meadow/ewok/narnia and some other bits.. depends who's out with me

Is that first one on trailforks as frog combe singletrack? And likewise the second one as bin combe? I'm down that way next week and have never done either of those two.

yes on both counts ๐Ÿ™‚

find frog combe singltetrack isn't too bad (but i had rirden higher hare knap a bunch of times beforehand).. its out towards higher hare knap and drops off right hand the side part away along. the entrance isn't nice so take care there. once you're off the brakes you can let loose

i think the bincombe video is especially useful as it took me a while to find the proper route when i was looking for it a few years ago and this shows you right from the clearing by the fort in ladys wood

Thanks - the plan this time was to just go exploring & try to use Strava/Trailforks to find stuff to ride rather than having a fixed route, but experience tells me that some of the best bits have rather obscure/uninspiring entrances so it'll be good to have a couple of targets in mind.

Well the good news is I found a whole bunch of new stuff, some a bit beyond my mince-core light level of gnarr. The bad news is that mrsp stacked it on the first rooty bit of Frog singletrack & dislocated her thumb - so that one can wait until next time.

Well I rode it on Sunday and very nice it was. Looks like new lines are being created on the left of that nasty rain gulley.
