[#3471587]

So earlier this week I discovered the Quad machine at the gym. My quads have always been weak but I've soon built up the weights to a silly level and still no lactic acid etc.

From google etc it looks like this is a good offbike aid to riding. Experiences??

These machines if used correctly can give your quads a more squarer profile than on the bike training would give

You sound like you're more interested in pulling the importer of transition bikes than actualy riding.

for shaping the muscle, very good but for strength/endurance i would do squats or leg press TBH

Don't bother. The quad machine is an isolation exercise. You want to be focusing on compound exercises, which strengthen the body as a whole.

Learn how to squat and deadlift and leave the machines to the old ladies.

It depends on how wasted your quad muscles are really, if you're wanting to 100% target the quad then the machines are good for isolation exercise so if you were say coming off an injury or an operation they work well for forcing you to work the atrophied muscle in a safe manner but it sounds as if you aren't in that position so dynamic weights should work better overall.

DO you mean the leg extension machine?

I've been using it for the exact reason as described by Mr Synthpop.

Personally I think that longterm use of any isolation machine can lead to muscular imbalance and ultimately injury.
