After 4 months and c 1.5k miles the chain of my commuter needs a Putoline bath. I will do the mtb and gravel at the same time.
Do you clean your chain before hand? Mine do not look very dirty but must have dust and grit in there? If so what do you use? Would prefer something I can pour into a bottle and shake rather than scrub or rub.

No - no need. When the wax is nice and runny all the muck (what little there is) comes off and falls to the bottom of the tin. Give the chain a we stir around in the tin

Yes, but I've got a plastic food container with citrus degreaser in it that I just shake the chain in, then rinse in water so it adds 30 seconds more. Probably not required but I already had it.
