Just as an aside, a motorbike question. Today I saw an HD with Goldwing-type huge luggage but the rider was wearing what seemed to be similar to a pi**pot helmet. Is that not illegal?

I'm looking forward to it, but if it's pissing down I won't be there. Quite excited otherwise as never done a "social" ride before; usually go there for 1 1/2 to 3 hours and rag it silly. Which doesn't imply that I'm fit.

rightplacerighttime - there is another thread but basically 9.00 am meet for 10.00 am pedal from the large car park beside the transatlantic crossing port.
OK, if there's no more plan than that I'll just ride around randomly until I meet you (or don't). Do you have a lunch venue in mind?
Huge car park end of Poole Harbour is the meet. Get little ferry. Two groups going out, min 30 miles with faster group doing more hills. Options for cutting it short. Be self-sufficient so bring a picnic lunch.
It will be a great day, not least cos there's some great people going, and Rich has promised us a really enjoyable day.
