This is really niche but I'm feeling very pleased to have discovered it. We have annual worldwide travel insurance through our RBS Premier Platinum account. Cover is limited to trips of less than 30 days. My daughter is going to the US for 80 days and it was going to cost me £167 to upgrade the cover to extended trip. Instead of doing this, I have upgraded the bank account to Premier Black. This only costs £12 per month more but includes trips up to 90 day and airport lounge access (I've got a few trips coming up so will make good use of this). I'll only stick with this account for the summer so total additional cost will be about £48, rather than £167. Winner.

"Because the one you're on about is, so comes with the related additional cost. The RRP of a decent hard tail frame is north of £900 these days!"

Not at all. Far cheaper than that, not that the RRP means anything.

Being built in the UK doesn't bring any functional benefits so people don't pay that, hence the discounting, which would need to be even deeper as I said, to compete with TW welding, which it probably can't what with the extra layer of unnecessary UK cost yet probably less consistent in terms of quality and finish. I fear Orange are on a road to nowhere or maybe to be a boutique brand with loyal (read "old") customers.

But I would be happy to be wrong on that one.

I'd have agreed with you, they definitely moved to "boutique" pricing and I don't see many of the newest ones out and about.

But £900 is still an absolute bargain for that quality of frame. The frame pricing should be closer to £2k RRP than £3k if they want to survive. I honestly don't know how much of their price increases were aspirational/opportunistic and how much was driven by costs though.

Also, I was riding with my mate on his carbon Trek Slash in the Lakes the other weekend and some teenagers hiking who were obvs into MTB got all excited when they saw my Orange. I was as surprised as you, I'll be honest.

A boutique brand with a massive (confusing, overlapping) range doesn't figure. Hopefully this is them finally trimming that down

A big shout out to @greatbeardedone for the PSA a few weeks back about the discounted bike deals on Start Fitness. I bought a half price Orange Stage 6 and it is far and away the best bike I have ridden in 35yrs of mountain biking. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit!

Certain sellers on ebay have 20% off until tomorrow and one of those sellers is sport and leisure and they have loads of cycling stuff already at good prices and then another chunk off.

If you're a rum fan... https://www.theduppyshare.com/products/copy-of-spiced-aged-bundle-2-x-70cl is £95 instead of the  RRP of 120..

However use discount code of RUM4DAYS and get another 20% off!  down to £76 ( even though  it says no discount codes  allowed on 4 bottle offer)

The code will also work on single bottles etc too.

How would that GT Sensor LE compare to my current Cotic Jeht 1?  It looks great, at what seems to be a really good price.

if you need a BB, these will probably do for this price. tredz wouldn't match when i asked. apparently that only works if they feel they can afford it, but i'm told they are at the same price now....

anyway, deore BBs £8.50: https://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-mt501-bottom-bracket-cups-288630.html

The single-track members discount of 18% for exposure lights can be used on their outlet store.

https://www.exposurelights.com/collections/outlet

I went for a 6 pack.

£377 isn't cheap but my last six pack has lasted the best part of 10 years.

£5 for postage, I bought a second as a spare to make it more worthwhile.

Cannondale branded Fabric Scoop saddles

I had one of these, as the leather look Scoop is a favourite, but the fabric one was awful, probably adds a little bit of friction compared to the plastic covered ones, and made my backside sore.

was after a shock for the Banshee Spitfire, the DPX2 desperately needed a service, but found these take off new 2024 Factory Float X from Germany, obviously there will likely be Vat etc to be added on but grabbed one for myself

185x55 Trunnion

Fox Float X Factory 185 x 55 mm Luftdämpfer EVOL LV Kashima Dämpfer Trunnion NEU | eBay UK

On the Back of that, Merlin also have a cheap X2 performance, but i think it's the temperamental model so didn't bother (£250)

Also some super cheaper Super Deluxe Debonair+

RockShox Super Deluxe Select DebonAir+ 185x55 Trunnion Shock | eBay UK

(115 ish)

Sorry for hijacking the thread but any recommendations for spokes? This is my first wheel I'll be building so I'm bamboozled by the vast options. Just need someone to recommend me something decent and I'll buy em. Don't need anything fancy or high end.

DT rims come with alloy squorx nipples (funny-shaped ones rather than a slot across the top) and nipple washers (really), but I prefer to sub those out for brass versions. Not essential though.

Spokes: ACI are good as are DT. ACI DB double-butted are good all round use, cycle basket usually a good place to source them. Black or silver is up to you: https://www.cyclebasket.com/products.php?mode=search

another shout to the Stif ebay outlet. some very good deals there, just picked up a 30.9 KS Lev integra Ci for £50. Just arrived, expecting i to be a fitted and removed OEM version with no hardware and it's boxed retail with a cable and a 'round the bar' type lever too. very pleased.

the standard Lev's are £60, with some other variants available too.

also carbon cranks for £100-£120, santa cruz carbon risers for £50, fox 36's for £300...

I get spokes (often Sapim CX-Ray) and rims (often DT or Spank) from David at DCR wheels in Lewes near Brighton. Mind you their build skill is very high and only costs about £30 so in the past I generally just gave them the hubs.

I've gone with those Alpina spokes from Cycle Basket. The low price point makes me happy and will go nicely with my cheap rim and hub. Thanks all!
