I stopped at the village store in Longhorsley today. It's been taken on by a young lad who's stocking lots of local produce and outstanding pasties. Very good coffee too. It's right by the A697 so en route for Rothbury, Thrunton and so forth. They're open 7.30am to 2.30pm so best call in on your way north!
I have no connection to the business, just pleased to stumble across this and they deserve to do well.

Brill, thanks. We're thinking of a trundle up that way and that could just be the excuse we need 😎 Anyone know what the cycle path provision is up that way? I can get to my mam's in Blyth on NCR1 but I can imagine the roads up that way might be full of gammons.

@kayla1 you can stay with NCN1 north of Blyth, say as far as Druridge, then head west on the minor roads. It’s pretty quiet in my experience.

I can recommend The Sun Inn in Harbottle, decent beer & food with French & Italian chefs plus they've a shop attached to the pub which is open when the pub is.

Second that. Regularly stop in on the road bike, or on the way up to Scotland or Thrunton where I'm definitely not riding.

I heard it was the people who own North Shore coffee in Newcastle. Certainly it's there coffee. Friendly people, good coffee, great cakes. Very unassuming from the outside but if it stops people getting to the chocolate banana loaf straight out of the oven before me, then so be it 😁

Fantastic, my preferred route to get to Edinburgh and by then I’m usually wanting coffee.

@joe-m

Sorry for the slow reply. Pretty much all of the trails in the middle section, off the fire road that climbs up from the burn are fine, and can be accessed from one of the fire roads below the main car park. Allegedly.

Ahhhh thanks I definitely won’t go and check them out so I definitely won’t see you up there at some point. I’ll not be on the 2018 red and silver mega.
