Never had any Aldi bike stuff, how does it size up? I refuse to strip down to my pants in Aldi.

Can someone tell me why I would want to buy a 3-pack of GT85 for bike use, having never knowingly used the stuff on a bike for 40-odd years? 😆

Popped in to one of the Leeds branches earlier and grabbed 2 x merino base layers and the light/camera.

Looking forward to messing about with it at the weekend.

Not checked video quality apart from a quick check in the office that it works. It comes with an 8GB micro SD card.

I've just set it recording for the afternoon sat on the desk (plugged into power) to check and see whether "loop" recording works (or whether it just runs out of memory and bombs out) - looks like the 8gb card will last for about an hour based off a quick 5 min test file.

I always keep a can in the shed with a rag to give garden tools a quick spray & wipe after use to prevent them from rusting.

And it smells nice.

But I don't recall ever taking garden tools out with me on a ride either! 😈

GT85 is excellent for cleaning bike frames and bits.

I got some of the lights last year and they're great. Only ever run them on the lowest brightness flashing setting and they seem to last forever and a day between charges.

These looks slightly different, but I'll be picking some up on my way home. If they're half as good as the previous ones I'll probably buy a spare set as well.

We have two Aldis in town now, and the cycle stuff didn't ever sell out when we just had one.

Picked up a merino long sleeve top from Keighley aldi today. Got the last one. Size large. (no xls)

Lovely piece of kit. 3/4 length zip. Windproof front. Pockets on rear, 1 zipped. Slim body and long arms with thumb loops. Really good fit. 6ft3, slim build. Would buy another if they had any more.

Has anyone reviewed the footage on the lights in a dark room yet? Tempted by this but I'm waiting to see what your reviews are.

Erm yeah me neither.

I'm not part of a 'trail crew' but local natural trails often need a bit of love. I've a folding trench tool, folding saw, and folding secateurs. Had to use the axe/spade last week to "help" nature repair a fireroad after damage from a motorbike race in the woods.

I think my shopping list is: front and rear high performance lights, winter gloves, waterproof trousers. Maybe the merino neck warmer too.

(Although, it says the lights are mini USB, not micro. Anyone checked?)

The lights (individual 12.99 front/rear and 14.99 front & rear set) are micro USB. Although the front light in the 14.99 set is its own USB plug instead of having a socket which is kind of mad.

There were no merino tops in the St Georges store in Bristol, by 2:30pm. The £12:99 pair of lights are pretty neat though.

Sizing for tops is small. On me, the L mens was tiny. Mrs M couldn't get her Med ladies top on, but my L mens fitted her fine. Her top will have to go back. On a positive note, butter is 40p / pack cheaper than in my local Co-op.

I think I just spent the most money anyone has EVER spent in Aldi.

2 merino l/s base layers
2 bottles muc off cleaner
1 bottle wet lube
1 small rear light
1 pair merino arm warmers
2 pairs merino blend socks
1 pair neoprene gloves
1 mini bike stand

1 pair wireless headphones - wtf?
1 workzone fleece hoodie - wtf?

Would have had a merino jersey with the front wind panel too, but medium was the biggest they had.

Now to try on/decide if I take anything back..........

Edit: A drink to go with lunch, a paleo bar, some chewing gum, and two bottles of 'Velo' pale ale!

North of £100. I only went in for one merino base layer.

Anyone have a spare saddle mount for the rear lights lying around?

Update:

Merino base layers a funny shape, and small. I got large (42"-44") am a 40" chest, they're snug to say the least, huge neck hole though.

Small rear light just seems poor in general and batteries seem to be flat.

Workzone hoodie just crap in all respects.

Haven't tried the headphones yet, but suspect they'll be going back with all of the above. The rest seems good/as expected.

I can confirm that the high performance lights are micro USB, and brighter than the sun.

For those so inclined down South the Rustington store is chock full of everything except 9-11 waterproof socks as I bought the last pair. £13. I have high expectations, £13 for anything in Aldi is top order.

‘That’ aisle in Rustington is extraordinary, Bike stuff, welders, compressors, carpets, hoses, shoes, hosiery. You could host an extravagant S&M soirée.

It’s a nice shop too, never been in before, not like any other Aldi I’ve been in.

So the camera light does loop - it records in 500mb chunks and deletes the oldest file in turn.

It also beeps when layered on its side then turns off after a while (5 mins or so) - I guess that’s the incident detection.

No idea of video quality on the road yet but it does what I want so far so will mount it on the bike and trial it next week.

Plenty left in Stourbridge with the exception of merino tops.
I’ve got some high performance lights and they are very good and very bright.
Also picked up the obligatory winter gloves.

Did the camera light really only record ~60mins on a full charge?

Would barely cover my direct commute to work and back, useless for extended routes home and 20+ mile rides.

The camera keeps recording until the battery runs out - have not tested how long that is although I think the claim is 6 hrs ish(?)

The 60 mins was my quesstimate of memory capacity - it just keeps over writing the older stuff though so keeps going as long as the battery does.

(shakes fist at Pictonroad)....damn you for swiping the last of the waterproof socks from the Rustington store!

Ah well, guess it'll be some LED lights, a bucket load of GT85 and a Merino top or two for me then.

I bought one of the bright rear lights last night, but I'm taking it back

My Dad had the previous last years version and that can do different speeds of strobe. As far as I can see this one is a constant speed of strobe or stupid fast strobe.

It's very bright, but I liked the strobe pattern of the previous model.

I is disappointed.

Wore the merino LS base layer on way into work this morning and seemed pretty good. Fit is a little strange - they seem quite short in the body but as it is worn under stuff it isn't too much of an issue!

Does it? Mine only does steady (3 light levels) and flash (3 light levels). You double press to switch between steady and flashing.

This years seems similar but has steady (4 light levels) flash (3 levels) and strobe.

I picked up a large pair of the overshoes in the hope that they might actually help keep my feet warm when combined with Shimano winter boots and woolie boolie socks on road rides.
I picked up a front light as well, like it as you can have a flashing mode which isn't full on to irritate every other road user on the planet. I still have winter gloves unused so didn't bother with those. The clothing is rarely of interest as it usually only starts at medium.

...the light is brighter than I was expecting s...

The light can be turned off, but there is always a relatively dim red light "chasing" around the camera lens when it's on. ...

So the camera light does loop - it records in 500mb chunks and deletes the oldest file in turn.

It also beeps when layered on its side then turns off after a while (5 mins or so) - I guess that’s the incident detection.

Sounds like an exact copy of the Fly6 in that case, bargain for £40 if the video quality is good.

Neoprene gloves (great fit and palm), thought there winter gloves were too bulky

GT85

Muc-off chain/gear degreaser

2 x Dry lube (lots of sand round here and wet lube just clogs)

Thermal buff and normal spotty buff

and lots of fish!

Just bought the Windproof Merino Jersey in Size L & XL: https://www.aldi.co.uk/men%27s-merino-cycling-wind-jersey/p/078292168863600

It's a really nice jersey and sizing is quite good although I'm not sure I'll be keeping or taking them back yet.

I'm 6ft'1", approx 14.5 stone with 42" chest. The large fits me fine on the arms and shoulders but its a bit tight on the stomach/waist area. The XL fits me fine everywhere but when in the biking position there is alot of baggy material around the chest which will probably flap about in the wind.

It has side panels that are stretchy which does improve the general fit.

Just been and bought socks, merino neckwarmer and a merino beanie.
Neckwarmer is OK but twice as long as I would like.
The L/XL beanie is too small for my head so will be going back.

Just came back from a group ride with the rear camera. Kind of wished I hadn't told half the group about it and there are several acting attempts and many stupid faces.
Anyway.
2 hr ride and still had about 40% charge left with the lights on full brightness.
8GB memory card records 11 5 minute videos and constantly overwrites the oldest video.
Video quality is great. Low light is ok and functional.
Location is a problem as it was wet so a fair bit of spray obscuring the lens at times, but clears quite quickly.
Only bad thing, don't bother with sound. Might be enough to record horns blasting but cant make out many conversations, even when stopped.
8/10 for performance, value for money, 10/10
