SubjectiSubjective question but how tight should the shorts be?
I ordered the bib, MTB and running shorts in size small (I’m about a 31” waist which is half an inch more than pre-lockdown!) and they all feel a bit snug.
I haven’t worn bibs before and I am very aware of straps on my shoulders.

You won't notice the straps on the bike, as you're kinda hunched over, all my bibs are like that, feel tighter when stood upright.

@donncha

If your finding them too small I missed out and would happily take them both off your hands.

The way they are clearing stuff out, they must be shutting down

Honestly I just figured the prices looked so good because the RRPs were artificially high, e.g. bibs were great but no WAY were they worth £180 retail.

How long have they been around, have they been selling at RRP for a while now?

I hope they're not closing, as you say mibbe not worth 180 quid, but I got a pair of Fox Ranger shorts the week before for 52 quid, and the AG shorts are a league above in terms of quality.

I reckon I'd pay 100 quid for them, now that I know how good they are.

They have been around since 2018 from what I can see so not very long.

I just don't think they had the name or marketing prescence to command such high prices, however if the same stuff had a Rapha, castelli or other well known brand name i'm sure people would be very happy with the kit. Its top notch quality and design but with one or two odd fitment quirks which a brand like castelli or assos wouldn't let out the door.

I bought a pair of the 2 in 1 bibs for 90 quid before they dropped the price and I am more than happy with them at that price.  I now have pretty much 1 item of all the kit and so does my wife. she reckons the 3/4 running tights are the best she has ever seen.

The quality is really good. I do hope it's just a clear out before all new lines but am not too hopeful

Bought an XL Light Gilet on eBay yesterday, brand new with tags, for £24 posted - was genuinely surprised to find that I was the sole bidder. Also have another pair of XL bibshorts on the way... I think I've bought enough Aussie Grit bike wear to keep me going for a year or two!

Anyone got the Flint jacket.. is it comparable to a Gore Phantom in terms of weight and material?

It does seem to me that the sale is the end of the company, which is a shame. I bagged a pair of Ignite 2in1 bib shorts and the light gilet and have worn them over the past few days and I have been extremely impressed.

Hopefully, they will be lauching new lines but I fear that the prices are indicative that they're closing down.

When I emailed them to ask if by any chance they had any XL bibshorts returned as they didn't fit (they did, so I bit their hands off!) I asked if the sale meant the end of them in the UK and this was what they said:

"Good questions regarding Aussie Grit Apparel; at the moment it’s a case of “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” regarding the sale, and we’re busy planning for the future."

If anyone's after Large bibshorts or ladies gilet there's one of each on eBay, new.

I spoke to the guy selling the bibshorts, but he's more focused on the RRP rather than what he paid for them...

Had a feeling folk might be doing that... :-/

I could happily pay for letting them break even after eBay takes commission, maybe a bit more... depends what they're worth too you I guess. They are bloody good shorts, mind.

I just checked my credit card statement - I appear to have spent slightly more than £400 on Aussie Grit since the 50% sale started..........That is for me and the mrs though.

The only piece I'm slightly dissapointed with is the mtb jacket - why do 'upmarket' cycle companies insist on offset zips? All it means is that when you have them slightly unzipped the larger offset bit flaps around in your face rather than falling naturally to the side like a central zip, Its not just the AG jacket that does this but its a pain in what is otherwise a great bit of kit.

Strange, you rejected paying £75 for the pair I offered you that I'd tried on for size and felt were a bit on the big side. I've worn them on the bike now for about an hour and they've been washed on cold non bio cycle so still look like new, still interested?
Edit, I paid £90 for mine and was very happy that I'd got good value.

And pop, they're gone, as predicted by some.

Closing at the end of the month.

Sad but I think it was pretty obvious from the cuts in the sale that this was a firesale.

Shame.

That's a shame to hear them closing. I managed to get the shorts, and they are superb, I was hoping to get more if further sales popped up.

Being selfish, does the e-mail say what's happening with refunds? I sent some stuff back to them yesterday.

Here you go:

After a challenging period for us at Aussie Grit Apparel it is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to close the business. We started 2020 with so much positivity and plenty to look forward to including great events, new activations and investment in our next collection of Aussie Grit Apparel for later this year. However, COVID 19 has made a significant impact to our business and our exciting plans. We will cease our web sales on 30 June but will provide support for any product issues for the month of July.

We want to thank you, our wonderfully loyal customers and partners, for all of your support over the past two years and for sharing our journey. We hope you will continue to enjoy your Aussie Grit products and carry our spirit on your adventures in the great outdoors.

We never say never, so we hope there is an opportunity to connect with you again.

Team Aussie Grit

To me that sounds like they are off to work for a bigger competitor/retailer.

These micro brands can be an incredibly small operations. Have enough contacts in the business to know which factory Rapha get their kit made in, employ a designer for a week or two to run up some technical flats, a factory visit and you are up and running (I'm simplifying but not a lot). After that it could be just one or two employees (inthis case maybe one or two in Aus and one here acting as a sole agent). It would be interesting to know where Mark Webber fits into this - did they approach him, did they pay him to be a brand ambassador, was he an investor?

I know the name of the chap behind the UK operation as he used a differennt email address when I dealt with him to get the XL bibshorts that he'd had returned; I was nosey so Googled him and he's certainly what I'd consider a 'high flier' from what I could see, besides a keen and very capable cyclist. I've replied and wished him all the best for the future.

My return got to them today and I was refunded a couple of hours later so you should be fine. Shame as the kit is very nice. Especially at the sale prices!

Real shame. Such good quality kit. Just went back to site and bought tights, t-shirt and running shorts. None of which I actually need, but hey I'll find a use for them.

Was tempted by the down jacket. Do like a nice down jacket. Sold out though. Did anyone get one, love to know if they're as good as they look!

I bought 2 pairs of the baggy bibs on impulse and am quite impressed with them for lockdown gravel rides. I have been wearing them in preference to Endura Pro SL bibs and Castelli gravel shorts, which is a more comfy setup for rides over 2 hours, but for local stuff the Aussie kit is a winner...

Sad to see this.

Only thing I  bought from them was the combo shorts, I'd been looking for a reasonably priced (and coloured) setup like this for a couple of years, since first seeing Specialized's version. The pad is good though not great, for me, and cut me up a bit on a really wet day but they're a decent piece of kit, and I reckon they'll be my goto short for most short-medium distance riding now.

A shame that I only really became aware of them due to this psa. Idly wondering what will happen to the IP now...

EDIT:Looks like the websites gone now.

Just ordered a load more for my wife as pretty much everything is still available in female sizes and I have finally convinced her to get off her arse and look at it before it is too late (a wife that hates shopping - I am blessed).

Hope it fits as I would imagine returns now might not be a thing if they are closing imminently.

Sorry to bump a thread with a sad ending, but there's someone local to me selling a Flint Jacket, brand new, size L (probably asking more than it cost on sale, but it still looks like a good deal).

How's the fit? Unfortunately I've been spoiled by a Gore C7 jacket with long arms, dropped waist and no excess fabric around the front but would accept anything that was slightly better than my Endura eVent which rides half-way up my forearms when I'm on the drops...
