I seem to remember the cartoons - Nogin the Nog, Crystal Tips & Alistair, The Herbs, Hectors House, Ivor the Engine

I suspect that they are all far worse than I remember!

Anyone remember "Into the Labyrinth?" At least I think that's what it was called. Must be 30 years ago now. It was a weird and slightly creepy serial about some kids lost in a labyrinth.

At this time of year you could not beat "The Box Of Delights". I LOVED that programme.

Secret Army - Saturday evening war drama with a cool theme tune.

Anyone seen the modern stuff that kids are watching these days? Absolute rubbish and it's quite disappointing the way a lot of cartoons especially have gone. Watched some Ben 10 with my Girlfriends Nephew (4) the other day, it taught him that it was good to shoot someone in the back after letting them leave. Great. I managed to catch some of the new Thundercats at the weekend, that seems to have gone the same way. They're all lacking in story lines and hammed up with unnecessary violence.

Fortunately I've managed to get him the complete original Thundercats, so that he can have his moral compass properly reinforced rather than undermined. And also Dungeons and Dragons.

Ulyses, Mysterious Cities of Gold and Flash Gordon are next on the list.....

I've noticed that kid's shows have largely become dumbed down yet sped up.

Show a modern child a program like Bagpuss, Mr Ben, Finger Bobs, Mary Mungo and Midge etc., and the kids can't cope. The kids soon lose interest, perhaps because they have too much breathing space. Things, stupid things, are not happening every second. I think... also the language was richer, more eloquent, and intelligent in those gems.

Having said that. I loved the Six Million Dollar Man. The best show in the world when I was 10, but a show I now recognise as stupid, yet it all still appeals.. the notion, the toys, the graphics of those toys and merchandise... the hopefullness in technology and in the future.

TJ Hooker, The Fall Guy, Crazy Like a Fox, Street Hawk...I doubt I'd watch any of them nowadays though.

I disagree (on an internet forum? Whatever next?). There are some superb kid's TV programmes being made. The Adventures of Abney and Teal is more akin to Bagpuss and co. My 5 and 3 year old love watching it with me. It is delightful. It's just intended for a different age group to Ben 10 etc, so can't really be compared. Love it or hate it, In the Night Garden is another one that most definitely has "breathing space" as you call it.

That said, I found Bagpuss boring as a kid 😆

Anyone remember Automan?

The Six Million Dollar Man.

I grew up thinking that you could escape your enemies by running in slow motion while making a strange electronic noise.

I disagree too - my son quite happily watches older programmes that fit that description and I don't think that's uncommon. He does love the more modern stuff too.

Rhubarb

Willow The Wisp – for some reason, at the age of 11, me and the boys found the moog particularly hilarious.

Cholrton and the Wheelies etc – my Mrs bought her first house of Laura Cosgrove who was part of the family production company behind this and the likes of Danger Mouse.

Rent–a-Ghost was one of my favs. Mr Claypole I believe may have allegedly died of aids, which may or may not have come from the back half of the horse.

You can get AIDS from the back half of a horse 😯

Is that the good or bad type of AIDS?

One of my favourites, with John Lee in the foot section!

I've never seen terrorhawks repeated either.

How do you embed a Youtube clip then???

Like the Flashing Blade and White Horses, Robinson Crusoe... was also a badly dubbed, black and white classic!

What about the Tomorrow People and Folly Foot Farm... 🙂

Anyone remember Ludwig and Watoo Watoo?

Ludwig was an egg, followed around by a bloke with binoculars.

Watoo Watoo was some kind of space bird

Black and white fairy tales from E Germany - very scary esp the Tinderbox. Someone reckoned the series was called the Singing Ringing Tree but I'm not sure.

And of course the Doubledeckers

Kung Fu

"When, Grasshopper..."

Overall message - only use violence after you've exhausted all other options. Still sound advice IMHO.
